Introduction — Your Role as a Speaker

Your Contribution

As a native speaker, you play an irreplaceable role in the Racines app:

  • You record the authentic pronunciation of words and phrases
  • You allow learners to hear the real language, with its tones, intonations, and natural rhythm
  • You contribute to the preservation of your language for future generations
  • You help transmit culture through sound

The app does not use synthetic voices (Text-to-Speech) — only recordings from native speakers are used. Your voice makes all the difference.

What You Will Record

You record two types of content, accessible from two tabs in your interface:

MOTS Tab — Word Challenge

  • Individual words organized by theme (Family, Food, Nature…)
  • 6 words per card — each word is an independent recording
  • Clear pronunciation of each word, one or two syllables at a time
  • Approximately 480 recordings for a complete language (80 cards × 6 words)

PHRASES Tab — Phrase Challenge

  • Conversation exchanges (question/answer)
  • Only positions 1 and 4 of each card:
  • Position 1: Question in your language (Lot 1)
  • Position 4: Answer in your language (Lot 2)
  • Positions 2 and 3 are in French — no recording needed
  • Approximately 80 recordings for a language with 40 phrase cards

These estimates include preparation (reading the text before recording), recording, listening back for verification, and any retakes.

💡 Recommendation: 30-minute sessions are more effective than one long multi-hour session. Your voice and concentration stay fresh.
