Why install the app?

Racines is a PWA (Progressive Web App): you can install it on your device just like any native app, without going through an App Store. Once installed:

  • Quick launch: icon on your home screen or desktop
  • Full screen: no address bar or browser interface
  • Dedicated icon: the Racines logo appears on your home screen
  • Improved performance: faster startup
  • Optimised offline mode: the Service Worker is managed more efficiently

Installation is optional — the app works perfectly in the browser without being installed.

iOS — iPhone and iPad

⚠️ Required: use Safari. PWA installation on iOS only works with Safari. Chrome, Firefox, and other iOS browsers do not support installation.

Procedure

  1. Open Safari (the app with the blue compass)
  2. Navigate to the Racines app URL
  3. Tap the Share icon (square with an upward arrow) — at the bottom on iPhone, at the top on iPad
  4. Scroll down in the share sheet
  5. Tap "Add to Home Screen"
  6. Edit the name if you wish (default: "Racines")
  7. Tap "Add" in the top right

Result

The Racines icon (app logo) appears on your home screen. Tap it to launch the app in full screen.

Required iOS version

  • iOS 11.3 minimum for basic PWA installation
  • iOS 16.4+ recommended for full features (notifications, access to advanced capabilities)

Android — Smartphones and tablets

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Navigate to the Racines app URL
  3. An install banner may appear automatically at the bottom or top of the screen after a few seconds
  4. Tap "Install" or "Add to home screen"

If the banner does not appear: 1. Tap the ⋮ menu (three dots, top right) 2. Tap "Install app" or "Add to home screen" 3. Confirm the installation

Procedure with Samsung Internet

  1. Tap the hamburger menu ≡ at the bottom right
  2. Tap "Add to Bixby Home" or "Add to home screen"
  3. Confirm

Procedure with Firefox (Android)

Firefox for Android supports PWA installation: 1. Menu ⋮ → "Install" or "Add to home screen"

Required Android version

  • Android 5.0 minimum (Chrome required)
  • Android 8.0+ recommended

Computer — Windows, Mac, Linux

Chrome, Brave, Edge

An install icon appears automatically in the address bar (⊕ icon or screen-with-arrow icon) when you visit the app.

Method 1 — Icon in address bar: 1. Look to the right of the address bar 2. Click the install icon (⊕ or similar) 3. Click "Install" in the popup

Method 2 — Browser menu: - Chrome: Menu ⋮ → "Save and share" → "Create shortcut..." → check "Open as window" → "Create" - Edge: Menu ⋮ → "Apps" → "Install this site as an app" - Brave: Menu ≡ → "More tools" → "Create shortcut"

Firefox (Desktop)

Firefox Desktop does not support PWA installation on Windows/Mac. Use Chrome, Edge, or Brave to install the app on a computer.

Safari on Mac

  • macOS Sonoma (14.0) and later: File → "Add to Dock"
  • Earlier macOS: PWA installation is not available, use Chrome

Uninstalling the app

iOS

Press and hold the Racines icon on the home screen → "Remove App" or "Remove from Home Screen"

Android

Press and hold the Racines icon → "Uninstall" or drag it to the bin

Computer (Chrome/Edge/Brave)

Open the PWA app → Menu ⋮ → "Uninstall [Racines]" → Confirm

The installed app and cache

PWA installation does not affect your offline content — downloaded languages remain available. If you uninstall the app, the offline data is deleted along with it.
