What is RÉVISION QCM?

RÉVISION QCM is the quiz module of the app. It lets you test your knowledge in the form of multiple-choice questions, organised by theme.

For each question: - A word in the African language is displayed - You must choose the correct translation from 4 options - Immediate feedback tells you whether you are right or wrong - Audio may accompany the feedback

Accessing RÉVISION QCM

  1. From the home page, click on the unlocked language
  2. On the language page, select "Révision" or "QCM"
  3. The category selection page appears

The category selection page (/[language]/revision)

What you see

A list of all available thematic categories. Each category corresponds to a theme (e.g. Family, Food, Nature…).

For each category: - The theme name - The number of available words for that theme - An indication of the number of questions the quiz will contain (see rule below)

You can filter categories by name to quickly find the desired theme.

Question count rule

The number of questions in a quiz depends on the number of words available in the category:

Words in the category Questions in the quiz
Fewer than 20 words 15 questions
20 to 29 words 18 questions
30 words or more 20 questions

This rule ensures you never see the same word twice in a quiz, and that the duration remains reasonable.

How a question works

Each question displays:

  1. The word in the African language — large, in the centre of the screen
  2. 4 options — buttons with French translations, only one of which is correct
  3. An audio button 🔊 — to listen to the pronunciation of the word

Choosing an answer

  • Tap one of the 4 options
  • You cannot change your answer once selected

Immediate feedback

As soon as you select an answer:

If you are correct: - The chosen option turns green ✅ - A confirmation message appears - The word's audio plays automatically (if available)

If you are wrong: - The chosen option turns red ❌ - The correct answer is highlighted in green - The correct answer's audio plays automatically

Moving to the next question

After the feedback, a "Next question" button appears. Tap it to continue.

Distractors (wrong answers)

The 3 incorrect options are chosen intelligently: - Prioritised from other themes (to avoid overly close confusion) - With appropriate difficulty (not too easy, not too obvious)

This makes the quiz more instructive because you encounter words out of context.

The final score screen

At the end of the quiz, you will see:

Information Detail
Score Number of correct answers / total number of questions
Percentage E.g. "75%"
Assessment Encouraging message tailored to the score

Available actions

  • "Retake the quiz": restart the same theme with a different random order
  • "Choose another category": return to the theme list
  • "Back to language": return to the main page of the language

Session tracking

Each completed quiz is recorded (anonymously): - Category played - Number of questions - Score obtained - Date and time

These data feed the statistics visible to administrators to help improve the content.

Offline behaviour

RÉVISION QCM works offline if the content has been downloaded: - ✅ Questions and options available (data stored in IndexedDB) - ✅ Audio available if downloaded - ❌ Quiz sessions are not synchronised until reconnection

Edge cases and expected behaviour

Situation Behaviour
Category with fewer than 4 words Not offered in the list (not enough to generate distractors)
Audio unavailable during feedback Feedback is shown without audio
Connection lost during a quiz Quiz continues locally if content is cached
Accidental page closure Quiz restarts from the beginning (session is not saved mid-quiz)

Tips

  1. Start with short categories (15 questions) to warm up
  2. Listen to the audio even when you are correct: reinforces auditory memorisation
  3. Redo the same theme until you reach 100%
  4. Do quizzes regularly: 5 minutes a day is better than one long weekly session
  5. Progress through all themes before revisiting the difficult ones
