General questions
Is the app free?
Access to the app is included with the purchase of the Racines by Kiyara board game. You receive a unique access code in your game box. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no advertising.
Do I need to create an account?
No. No user account is required. Your access code is all you need to unlock the language. The app does not ask players for an email address, password, or any personal information.
Can I use the same code on multiple devices?
Yes. Your access code can be used on as many devices as you like: smartphone, tablet, computer. You will need to enter the code on each new device and download the content for each device.
What happens if I change phone?
The unlocked language is stored locally on your current device. If you change phones, you will need to: 1. Re-enter your access code on the new phone 2. Restart the content download
Your code remains valid: you can reuse it without any limitation.
Are unlocked languages permanent?
An unlocked language remains accessible indefinitely on a given device, as long as you have not: - Cleared your browser cache - Changed browser or device - Uninstalled and reinstalled the app
Simply re-enter the code to unlock again on a new device.
How many languages can I unlock?
Each game box contains a code for one specific language. To unlock other languages, you need to purchase the corresponding editions of the Racines by Kiyara game. There is no limit to the total number of languages you can unlock.
Technical questions
Does the app work without internet?
Yes, after the initial download. All content (texts, translations, audio) is stored on your device. See the offline mode guide for details.
What devices does the app run on?
The app works on any device with a modern web browser: - Smartphones (iOS 14+, Android 6+) - Tablets (iPad, Android) - Computers (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Recommended browsers: Chrome, Safari, Edge, Brave. Firefox works but does not support PWA installation on iOS.
How much space does the app take?
Approximately 5 to 10 MB per downloaded language (texts + audio). The exact space depends on the number of available cards and recordings.
Can I delete a language to free up space?
There is no "Delete language" button in the interface. To free up space, you must clear your browser cache (which will delete all downloaded languages). You can re-download them using your access code.
Can the app be installed like a real application?
Yes. Racines is a PWA (Progressive Web App) and can be installed on your home screen just like any app. See the installation guide.
Is my data private?
The app collects only anonymous usage statistics: - How many times a card has been viewed - Number of audio plays - Quiz sessions (category, score)
This data is never associated with your identity, name, or email. No personal data is collected for players (no account, no individual tracking).
Content questions
Do all words have an audio recording?
The Racines team works with native speakers to record all words and phrases. Recordings are added progressively. If a word does not yet have audio, the 🔊 button will be absent for that specific word.
The app does not use a synthetic voice (Text-to-Speech) to compensate for a missing recording. Quality takes precedence over completeness.
Do the cards exactly match the board game?
Yes. Card numbers and content correspond perfectly to the physical cards in the game. Card no. 3 in the app is the same as card no. 3 in the game.
How often is the content updated?
New audio recordings are added regularly as native speakers make progress. To receive updates: 1. Connect to the internet 2. Go to the language page → "Mode Offline" 3. Restart the download
Files already cached and unchanged are not re-downloaded.
Can I suggest new content or report an error?
Yes! Use the contact form in the app to: - Report a translation error - Report an audio quality issue - Suggest a new word or phrase - Report any other comment about the content
Can I contribute as a native speaker?
If you are a native speaker of an African language and would like to contribute to the recordings, contact the team via the contact form or the email address provided in your game box.
Questions about the board game
Does the app work without the board game?
The app is designed to complement the board game. It can be used independently for learning, but the card numbers refer to the physical game.
Can I get a refund if the app does not work?
The app is a digital supplement to the board game. For any refund questions, contact the retailer where you purchased the Racines by Kiyara game.
